The United States Beer Industry Essay Example for Free

The United States Beer Industry Essay 1.The U.S. preparing industry has gotten progressively thought throughout the most recent two decades for a few reasons. a.The utilization of lager has been gradually declining, with the goal for organizations to pick up piece of the overall industry, they need to take clients from different organizations. This would then prompt a few organizations to leave business because of the absence of clients. b.Brand faithfulness additionally expanded. Notice assumed an enormous job. Bigger organizations had the option to burned through $0.40 per instance of lager sold. Littler mass-advertise brewers couldn't stand to spend close to that sum. c.Technological change in canning and appropriation lead to the convergence of the fermenting business, too. The size that a mass-advertise brewer needs to achieve to secure all economies of scale has developed. They should deliver more lager and accomplish more pieces of the overall industry. Not all organizations arrive at least effective sizes of creation. 2. The serious structure of the blending business utilizing Porter’s five powers model. a.Risk of section by potential contenders. New small scale blending organizations have low obstructions of section. New miniaturized scale preparing organizations don't depend intensely on brand steadfastness or economies of scale. Mass market brewers our confronted with higher obstructions to section due to mark dependability of clients and total cost points of interest. b.Intensity of contention of recently settled organizations new clients are continually entering the market as they become legitimate age and the readiness to expend lager, so mass market brewers attempt to interest them to get their business, limiting the opposition to take different organizations contenders. Request has likewise been developing, making them less serious. c. Dealing intensity of (purchasers might be the individual clients who expend it item) this is low for mass market brewers in light of the fact that there is countless purchasers accessible for High microbrewers. d.Bargaining intensity of providers (the associations that give contribution to the business, for example, materials, administrations and work) the preparing business has medium to low dealing intensity of providers. e.Threat of substitutes is a danger in light of the fact that there are other mixed refreshments that can be an immediate substitute for brew, for example, spirits and wine. 3.Small mass market organizations in the fermenting business are searching for high hindrances of section, solid haggling power from providers and solid bartering power from purchasers. To arrive at economies of scale, they would require a great deal of cash underway volume, causing a high boundary of passage. Providers can charge the new organizations more significant expenses since they are additionally offering to different mass market organizations and don't require or rely upon the new organizations for orders. Purchasers are solid and can drive down costs since they don't have to sell the new firms item. There are different mass market lagers that as of now have solid brand steadfastness that their clients are buying. 4.There are two diverse key gatherings in the fermenting business: mass market brewers (Anheuser-Busch, SAB-Miller, and Molson Coors) and premium small scale brewers. The contention is distinctive in the two gatherings. Mass market brewers are increasingly serious, and center around getting however much of the market as could be expected by preparing a lager enjoyed by many. Microbrewers items are center towards littler client by who like particular tasting lagers.

Hey Erick, You Awake

Hey Erick, You Awake During the summer, you get to do fun things you cant pull off during the semester, like staying up all night because spontaneous. After a long Saturday, my friends and I found ourselves chilling in the Music Room (the name of our TV room at Skullhouse) at 2 am watching Adventure Time followed by Bobs Burgers, two shows which Ive never seen before and had no idea what was going during either of them. One by one people called it a night, going upstairs to their rooms. I didnt want to call it a night just yet. I got a groupchat message from Hugo 17 asking if anyone was still awake. I replied Yea! Theres tons of us down here, come down. but there really only two of us, Steph 17 and I. Hugo came down and we watched a few more minutes of TV before he suggested we go chill on the fifth floor. Skullhouse is five stories and from one of the fifth floor windows you could see the entire Cambridge skyline. The night sky was breathtaking and relaxing. In the distance we saw an unusually large amount of smoke coming from behind one of the buildings. Not sure of what it was, I opened up Twitter and within seconds found out that a fire taking place on Allston St. Pictures and news of it were circulating all around Twitter.     First pic credited to Twitter User Dirty 30 Dave  @DIRTY30D. Second pic to Mike @NEFIreBuff. We talked endlessly until 5 am. Too tired to continue, we all finally went to our beds. Sort of. Back at my bed, I suddenly had enough energy to pull out my phone and browse Reddit for another hour. Then I heard Hugo say Hey Erick, you still awake? Yeah, I replied. You wanna go somewhere? .Not really, Cmon! Ok. I got myself back out of bed. 6am. Sunrise was coming up. We left the house and walked down Beacon St, passing by the bridge. We thought of going see if the fire had been put out. We also thought of visiting this building we could see in the Cambridge skyline next to the Stata Center that we didnt know. But instead, we found two lawn chairs on one of the docks on the Esplanade and sat there watching the sunrise while listening to Too Soaked To Break by Born Ruffians from Hugos exceptional playlist. So sunrise happened and it was nearing 7 am. We were hungry and in the mood to try the new Quesarito from Taco Bell. But unfortunately, Boston hadnt yet realized the economic profitablity in placing Taco Bells all around a city filled with broke college students who liked tacos. The closest one was in Northeastern University, and it wasnt even open on Sundays. And it was 7 am, so most places werent open yet. But after searching around a bit more, we found out that the Brueggers Bagels on Beacon St had been open since 6 am. Burgers with bagels for buns it was. It sortof looked like this, but not really, cause yknow, advertising. And snce I didnt take a picture of the Brueggers Bagels storefront, heres one from Google Maps. We got back to the house at 8 am.The sun was up. Everyone else was waking up. It was time to call it a night. Ten out of ten, would do it again.

What Is Recombinant DNA Technology

Recombinant DNA, or rDNA, is DNA that is formed by combining DNA from different sources through a process called genetic recombination. Often, the sources are from different organisms. Generally speaking, DNA from different organisms has the same chemical general structure. For this reason, it is possible to create DNA from different sources by combining strands. Key Takeaways Recombinant DNA technology combines DNA from different sources to create a different sequence of DNA.Recombinant DNA technology is used in a wide range of applications from vaccine production to the production of genetically engineered crops. As recombinant DNA technology advances, technique precision must be balanced by ethical concerns. Recombinant DNA has numerous applications in science and medicine. One well-known use of recombinant DNA is in the production of insulin. Prior to the advent of this technology, insulin largely came from animals. Insulin can now be produced more efficiently by using organisms like E. coli and yeast. By inserting the gene for insulin from humans in these organisms, insulin can be produced. The Process of Genetic Recombination In the 1970s, scientists found a class of enzymes that severed DNA in specific nucleotide combinations. These enzymes are known as restriction enzymes. That discovery allowed other scientists to isolate DNA from different sources and to create the first artificial rDNA molecule. Other discoveries followed, and today a number of methods for recombining DNA exist. While several scientists were instrumental in developing these recombinant DNA processes, Peter Lobban, a graduate student under the tutelage of Dale Kaiser in the Biochemistry Department of Stanford University, is usually credited with being the first to suggest the idea of recombinant DNA. Others at Stanford were instrumental in developing the original techniques used. While mechanisms can differ widely, the general process of genetic recombination involves the following steps. A specific gene (for example, a human gene) is identified and isolated. This gene is inserted into a vector. A vector is the mechanism by which the genetic material of the gene is carried into another cell. Plasmids are an example of a common vector. The vector is inserted into another organism. This can be achieved by a number of different gene transfer methods like sonication, micro-injections, and electroporation. After the introduction of the vector, cells that have the recombinant vector are isolated, selected, and cultured. The gene is expressed so that the desired product can eventually be synthesized, usually in large quantities. Examples of Recombinant DNA Technology rDNA Examples.   red_moon_rise/E/Getty Images Recombinant DNA technology is used in a number of applications including vaccines, food products, pharmaceutical products, diagnostic testing, and genetically engineered crops.   Vaccines Vaccines with viral proteins produced by bacteria or yeast from recombined viral genes are considered safer than those created by more traditional methods and containing viral particles. Other Pharmaceutical Products As mentioned earlier, insulin is another example of the use of recombinant DNA technology. Previously, insulin was obtained from animals, primarily from the pancreas of pigs and cows, but using recombinant DNA technology to insert the human insulin gene into bacteria or yeast makes it simpler to produce larger quantities. A number of other pharmaceutical products, like antibiotics and human protein replacements, are produced by similar methods. Food Products A number of food products are produced using recombinant DNA technology. One common example is the chymosin enzyme, an enzyme used in making cheese. Traditionally, it is found in rennet which is prepared from the stomachs of calves, but producing chymosin through genetic engineering is much easier and faster (and does not require the killing of young animals). Today, a majority of the cheese produced in the United States is made with genetically modified chymosin. Diagnostic Testing Recombinant DNA technology is also used in the diagnostic testing field. Genetic testing for a wide range of conditions, like cystic fibrosis and muscular dystrophy, have benefited from the use of rDNA technology. Crops Recombinant DNA technology has been used to produce both insect- and herbicide-resistant crops. The most common herbicide-resistant crops are resistant to the application of glyphosate, a common weed killer. Such crop production is not without issue as many question the long term safety of such genetically engineered crops. The Future of Genetic Manipulation Scientists are excited about the future of genetic manipulation. While techniques on the horizon differ, all have in common the precision with which the genome can be manipulated. One such example is CRISPR-Cas9. Is is a molecule that allows for the insertion or deletion of DNA in an extremely precise manner. CRISPR is an acronym for Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats while Cas9 is shorthand for CRISPR associated protein 9. Over the last several years, the scientific community has been excited about prospects for its usage. Associated processes are faster, more precise, and less expensive than other methods. While much of the advances allow for more precise techniques, ethical questions are also being raised. For example, because we have the technology to do something, does that mean that we should do it? What are the ethical implications of more precise genetic testing, particularly as it relates to human genetic diseases? From the early work by Paul Berg who organized the International Congress on Recombinant DNA Molecules in 1975, to the current guidelines set forth by The National Institutes of Health (NIH), a number of valid ethical concerns have been raised and addressed. The NIH guidelines, note that they detail safety practices and containment procedures for basic and clinical research involving recombinant or synthetic nucleic acid molecules, including the creation and use of organisms and viruses containing recombinant or synthetic nucleic acid molecules. The guidelines are designed to give researchers proper conduct guidelines for conducting research in this field. Bioethicists contend that science must always be ethically balanced, so that advancement is beneficial to humankind, rather than harmful. Julissa Brisman and the Craigslist Killer

On April 14, 2009, Julissa Brisman, 25, was meeting a man named Andy who had answered a masseuse ad that she had placed in the Exotic Services section of Craigslist. The two had emailed back and forth to arrange the time and agreed on 10 p.m. that night. Julissa had an arrangement with her friend, Beth Salomonis. It was a security system of sorts. When someone would call the number Julissa had listed on Craigslist, Beth would answer the call. She would then text Julissa that he was on the way. Julissa would then text Beth back when the man left. At around 9:45 p.m. Andy called and Beth told him to go to Julissas room at 10 p.m. She sent a text to Julissa, with a reminder to text her when it was over, but she never heard back from her friend. From Robbery to Murder of  Julissa Brisman At 10:10 p.m. the police were called to the Marriott Copley Place hotel in Boston after hotel guests heard screams coming from a hotel room. The hotel security found Julissa Brisman in her underwear, lying in the doorway of her hotel room. She was covered in blood with a plastic zip-tie around one wrist. EMS rushed her to Boston Medical Center, but she died within minutes of her arrival. At the same time, the investigators were looking at hotel surveillance photos. One showed a young, tall, blond man wearing a cap on an escalator at 10:06 p.m. The man looked familiar. One of the detectives recognized him as the same man who Trisha Leffler had identified as her attacker just four days earlier. Only this time his victim was beaten and shot to death. The medical examiner said Julissa Brisman had suffered a fractured skull in multiple places from being hit with a gun. She was shot three times—one shot to her chest, one to her stomach and one into her heart. She had bruises and welts on her wrists. She had also managed to scratch her attacker. The skin under her nails would provide the DNA of her killer. Beth called Marriott security early the next morning. She had not been able to get in touch with Julissa. Her call was routed to the police and she received the details of what had happened. She hoped by providing the investigators with Andys email address and his cell phone information that it would be of some help. As it turned out, the email address proved to be the most valuable clue to the investigation. The Craigslist Killer Brismans murder was picked up by the news media and the suspect was dubbed the Craigslist Killer (although he is not the only one that has been given this moniker). By the end of the day following the murder, several news organizations  were aggressively reporting on the murder along with copies of the surveillance photos that the police had provided. Two days later the suspect emerged again. This time he attacked Cynthia Melton in a hotel room in Rhode Island, but he was interrupted by the victims husband. Fortunately, he did not use the gun that he had pointed at the couple. He opted to run instead. Clues left behind at each attack led the Boston detectives to the arrest of 22-year-old Philip Markoff. He was in his second year of medical school, engaged and he had never been arrested. Markoff was charged with armed robbery, kidnapping, and murder. Those close to Markoff knew the police had made a mistake and arrested the wrong man. However, over 100 pieces of evidence had turned up, all pointing to Markoff as the right man. Death Before there was a chance for a jury to decide on who was right, Markoff took his own life in his cell at Bostons Nashua Street Jail. The Craigslist Killer case ended abruptly and without the victims or their loved ones feeling like justice had been served.

A Day in the Life of David M. Foster Free Essays

string(61) " About 30 minutes later, dinner is ready and out pops Ellie\." A day in the life of David M. Foster begins early. The alarm clocks begin sounding at 0445 Monday morning, even though I don’t get up until almost 0530. We will write a custom essay sample on A Day in the Life of David M. Foster or any similar topic only for you Order Now I am a deep sleeper and have a hard time waking up. My wife, Sarah, is not a heavy sleeper and is constantly awoken by my myriad of alarm sounds while I attempt to wake up enough to get out of bed. At 0530, I get up, turning off all the alarms so as not to aggravate my wife further. In a face-saving gesture, Sarah says nothing and acts as though she were asleep the entire time. Face-saving behaviors are â€Å"techniques used to salvage a performance (interaction) that is going sour† (Henslin, 2011, p. 114). Sarah has acted this way so that I don’t feel badly about waking her, even though we both know that my inability to get up quickly irks her each and every morning. I have to catch the bus, so I rapidly get dressed and grab my bag. When I get to the bus stop, there are several people there, but because the temperature is so low (about 20 degrees), no one says much. We generally keep to ourselves that early in the morning anyway. I do nod to those who are senior to me in rank and position in the military, as is customary for the services. One is expected to give the â€Å"greeting of the day†, basically a â€Å"good morning† to those who are senior in rank to you. Because I am of a junior rank, even as a seasoned NCO, I play that role. I have been playing that role for more than 15 years at this point and have come to acknowledge that it is part of my self-concept (Henslin, 2011, p114). At 0550, the bus arrives, late as usual. Just as soon as I sit down on the bus, I shoot off a text message to my supervisor, SFC Cooper, letting her know that I’m on the bus. The reason for this is two-fold. One, accountability formation is at 0630 (the bus ride is 20 minutes, minimum) and two, to let her know that I’m on the bus and didn’t just oversleep. The US Military ingrains certain standards of action into you as resocialization. Resocialization is â€Å"the process of learning new norms, values, attitudes, and behaviors† (Henslin, 2011, p86). These standards become norms. Norms are â€Å"expectations or rules of behavior that reflect and enforce behavior† (Henslin, 2011, p46). One of hese norms is that you must arrive 10 minutes prior to any formation. This is not a more, but a folkway. Not arriving at the appointed time violates a more. A folkway is a â€Å"norm that is not strictly enforced† (Henslin, 2011, p49), while a more is a â€Å"norm that is strictly enforced because it is thought essential to core values or to the well-being of the group† (Henslin, 2011, p49). At 0615, we arrived at the gate to Patch Barracks, the military Kaserne, or installation. The civilian guard is a Local National, so I greet him with a â€Å"Guten Morgen† (German for Good Morning). If he had been one of the few American guards, I would have just spoken in English. At 0635, after our accountability formation, I change into my uniform for the day, the Army Combat Uniform. The Uniform helps to indentify the subculture that we all belong to. Each service has its’ own uniform and its’ own subculture. A subculture results from â€Å"the values and related behaviors of a group that distinguish its members from the larger culture† (Henslin, 2011, p49). The US Military is a subculture of the United States of America and the US Army is a subculture of the US Military. Fast forward to after breakfast, its 0800 and I arrive (ten minutes early) for the Equal Opportunity Leader (EOL) Course that I am attending this week. Here I meet SFC Trussell, the instructor for the course and also the Equal Opportunity Advisor (EOA) for the Stuttgart, Germany area. SFC Trussell is my senior, so I defer to him and address him as â€Å"Sergeant†, which is in line with our folkways and mores. During the first part of the training today the students are all required to create a â€Å"badge†. This is done using a graphic and 5 words to describe your characteristics, list your demographic information, and group affiliations. The point of this exercise is as an â€Å"Ice-breaker† but also to help others understand how you relate to the world around you. The rest of the day is dry and boring. Having 15 years of experience, most of the course material in the EOL course is not new to me. Sarah has driven down to Patch Barracks and dropped off the car, so I don’t have to catch the bus home tonight. At 1715, I swing by the office and check in with SFC Cooper and answer a few emails to my counterpart at our higher headquarters. Nothing new, mostly routine stuff. At 1740, it’s into the car and off for the 40 minute drive home. Traffic is much worse in the evening than in the morning. I get home at 1820, walk through the front door, and immediately drop everything because here comes Molly. Molly is 4 years old and runs for me as soon as I open the door, yelling â€Å"Daddy’s home†! I grab her off the floor and give her hugs and kisses, transitioning from my role as â€Å"Soldier† to my roles of â€Å"Father† and â€Å"Husband†. This goes on with Molly for about 5 minutes before she begins to lose interest (as 4 year olds generally do) and I put her down, giving Sarah a kiss and asking how her day was. Our interaction is not very detailed as we both need time to decompress from our recent role changes. Sarah has gone from mother mode to wife mode as I have just entered the father role and can assist in taking care of the children. About 30 minutes later, dinner is ready and out pops Ellie. You read "A Day in the Life of David M. Foster" in category "Life" Ellie is 13 and regardless of the questions asked, her responses are seldom more than a word or two, â€Å"typical† behavior for a teenager. At 1920, dinner is over and it’s washing up time. At this point, everyone drifts off to do whatever we normally do, sticking with our own routines. I log into my online game, Eve Online, and chat with my friends there. Molly goes back to her â€Å"before bed† cartoons, Ellie disappears back into her room to do whatever teenagers do in their rooms, and Sarah logs onto her computer to chat with friends on Facebook and read the English newspapers online. I play Eve Online until 2200, the appointed time for my group to play, chatting about work, news, and such while engaging in space combat. At this point it’s time for me to pack my bag again for the next day, preparing to start all over. At 2245, it’s into bed and lights out. Day done! As I typed my Journal, I realized that the majority of my day is consumed by playing the role of Soldier. The structure of the US Military is such that almost every facet of your daily life, from the time you wake up, to the clothes you where, to the way you address people, is determined prior to the situation. Out of a 17 hour day, more than 12 hours of it is consumed by the â€Å"Soldier† role. Because I have been in the US Military for 15 years, I am fully indoctrinated and invested in this system, whether I realize it or not. I also realized that there is a specific moment when I transition from the Soldier role. Specifically, this is the moment I walk through the door and am â€Å"attacked† by my youngest daughter. If not for her, I might get â€Å"stuck† in the Soldier role, unable to do anything else. The importance of keeping this â€Å"Soldier† role at the forefront every day is simple: it provides the livelihood for me and my family. Without the US Military, and my participation in it, I would be forced to find alternate means to care for my family. I posses skills to do so now, but only because the US Military taught them to me. I was socialized in adulthood in the US Military. A day in my life is likely similar to most. The discerning factor is probably the US Military ties, though many of my classmates are also members of a military subculture. The subculture of the US Military dominates my daily life by design. The US Military requires individuals to be prepared to do extraordinary things and so requires a higher level of commitment (and indoctrination) than a job at McDonald’s might. The role of Soldier is a vast part of â€Å"who I am†, but I am also â€Å"Father† and â€Å"Husband†, as well as â€Å"friend†, â€Å"coworker†, â€Å"peer†, and â€Å"superior† to many, many people. I wouldn’t change a thing†¦. well, maybe the 0445 alarm clock. Journal All times in 24 hour clock. 8 February 2013 0445Alarm Sounds 0530Get out of Bed without waking wife any more than alarm has already. 0530-0545Dress in US Army Improved Physical Fitness Uniform (IPFU) 0545Grab bag, packed night before, and head to bus-stop. Temperature well below freezing with snow on the ground. Nod to others at bus-stop, no one really speaks, too cold. Several of the people at the bus-stop are higher ranking (which is normal). 0550Bus arrives, late as usual. Sent text message to SFC Cooper (Supervisor and Platoon Sergeant) saying â€Å"On the Bus†. 0550-0620Bus ride to Patch Barracks. Pulled hat down and slept (which is also normal). 615Showed ID Card to Gate Guard, said â€Å"Good Morning† in German since the guard is a German national. 0620Depart bus at second stop and walk to gym for first formation. 0625Drop bag in locker room, head to formation. Make sure supervisor/Platoon Sergeant see that I am present. Get brief for day from Detachment Sergeant (Upcoming events, etc. ). Fall out of formation because I am not doing Physical Training, reminded Platoon Sergeant/Detachment Sergeant that I had EO Course this week. 0635Back into Locker room to change into Army Combat Uniform (ACU’s). 0635-0715Shower, Shave, change, etc. 0715Depart Gym to Kantine for breakfast. 735Arrive Kantine, order eggs, sausage, Brotchen, coffee in German because the cook is a German national that has been working there for a significant period of time. 0740Pay for Breakfast in Euro instead of US Dollars 0750Drop tray and head to Equal Opportunity Leader (EOL) Course across the parking lot. 0800Met SFC Trussell, the instructor and also the Stuttgart Garrison Equal Opportunity Advisor (EOA). 0830During first block of training must complete the â€Å"Badge† exercise. Required to use 5 words and a picture to describe characteristics, demographic data, and group affiliation (annotated below). Stood up in front of class of 24 other Non-Commissioned Officers (NCO’s) and explained my â€Å"Badge†. I know several of them, some from my Unit and some from other units in the area. Schedule for the class is tight, trying to finish 6 days of training in 5. Keep most of my comments to myself so as not to drag out the class with empty discussion. 0900-1130Some interaction with classmates, though not much. It’s day one of the course and we are just getting to know one another, as well as keep up with the fast pace of the rather dry subject matter. Nursing Business Cultural Competences

Question: Discuss about thr Nursing for Business Cultural Competences. Answer: Cultural safety is an integral part of nursing practices in health care setting. Cultural safety is the effective and safe nursing practice of a nurse from different cultural background, which is determined by another person. Ensuring cultural safety is one of the key responsibilities of a nurse. Nurses deal with patients from diverse background and they have to establish a satisfactory therapeutic relationship with the patients; thus, they need cultural competence for providing patients culturally competent and equal treatment (Arieli et al. 2012). Being a nurse in Australia, I have to deal with diverse range of patient and have to ensure the absence of discrimination in the care settings. For evaluating my cultural competence in nursing care delivery, I have selected Muslim women in Australia, as the diverse group of care user. Grossman et al. (2012) depicted that culture plays a key role in shaping the health beliefs, values and behaviors in a health care setting. It has been revealed in several studies that inadequately handled cross-cultural issues are affecting the health care delivery by nurses significantly, leading to the negative health outcomes of patients. However, we face many barriers to provide effective and culturally safe services to my chosen users group. I have revealed that, Australia is a multilingual and multicultural community; however, there is a mono-cultural Anglo Australian approach that dominates the entire healthcare system. I have practiced in Queensland, where the Muslim population is greater in proportion; I have revealed that the cultural variations of the Muslim patients made the application of medical rules and regulation harder for us. One key barrier with these patients is communication issues. As approximately 70% of the Muslim women in Australia belong to non-English lin guistic background, effective communication is hindered with us (Gerlach 2012). Hindrance of effective communication within nurse and patient enhances the rate of medication errors, misinterpretation of health care advice and dissatisfaction of the patient. The second important barrier of delivering cultural safe practice to the Muslim women in Australian healthcare framework is their dietary boundaries. Muslim women are not permitted to consume some very common foods delivered to the patients at hospital like pork. This is very common non-vegetarian ingredients to common western foods like bacon, gelatin or ham in care settings. Non-compliance to their food culture leads to patients dissatisfaction, thereby lowering their health outcomes. In addition, Muslim women are permitted to consume only halal meat, which is not always followed in hospital food guidelines (Jeffreys 2015). I have also observed another challenge to deal with the Muslim women patients. According to their religious belief, they have to wash their hands before and after taking their every meal. It is quite difficult for a patient, who is bed ridden. They are not permitted to intake any medication that consist alcohol. It is very difficult for the us to deal with some situations, where a patients health requirement needs alcoholic drugs, but the patient is not allowed to have it. However, then I have to request the physician to prescribe some alternative medication for the patient to prioritize the patients religious value. Another challenging feature of working with Muslim women is that these patients are not permitted to expose their body parts in front of others, especially in front of a person of opposite gender (Kirmayer 2012). Thus, it was difficult for a nurse to deal with a patient experiencing some sexual reproductive issues. Another concern related to the Muslim patient is their r eligious fasting, which is difficult to be allowed in a hospital settings or if the patient is suffering from malnourishment (Akhu-Zaheya and Alkhasawneh 2012). However, disallowing them is a practice against patients moral rights. In core Muslim culture, the community is male dominated and women are not allowed to take medical assistance without having the permission from the male head of the family. While dealing with the patients, I have also observed that Muslim women do not have sufficient awareness about the necessary aspects of health and well being. Due to these reasons, it is difficult for me as well as other practitioners to involve the patients effectively in their health care planning. Thus, their cultural awareness should be improved for aligning their perspective with the modern medical services, which would help me to provide adequate health care services in a culturally safe way. While handling patients, I have to address and prioritize their unique health and personal needs. I have always tried to solve the issues raised while working with Muslim women in my work setting, through my critical thinking skills after evaluating the situation and priorities of the patient. I always show respect and dignity towards patients religious belief, while interacting with them. During my working period in Queensland, I have undergone a multicultural and multilinguistic training for enhancing my potential of communication with Muslim women, who are from non-English background (Kirmayer 2012). I always review patients background and history before interacting with the patient, it helps me to use my critical thinking skill and plan the framework of therapeutic relationship establishment. While assisting my female Muslim patients in their ADLs, I tried to maximize their privacy and tried to show a culturally neutral attitude. From my perspective, showing cultural competence t owards the patients improves their adherence and compliance with the health care practices. I always use my non-verbal skills, which are effective to communicate with patients, while facing communication difficulties with a Muslim woman. I believe in reviewing the cultural needs of a patient before initiating healthcare intervention. It helps me to prioritize my patients overall needs and thereby making them satisfied. For example, planning a Muslim patients meal time in such a way, that would not interfere her pray time, as they need to pray 5 times a day. I try to prioritize patients right, as it is essential for improving the quality of health care, according to the principle of Treaty and Waitangi. I also reflect my perspectives upon my colleagues for improving the quality of overall health care delivery system in our organization. I have dealt a patient, who was 79 years old and having impaired mobility, thus she needed assistance in bathing. However, she refused to take assistance, as she was not willing to expose her body parts in front of other person. I have not argued with the patient, rather with a polite eye contact, I tried to make the patient understand about her health risk of not taking assistance and attempted to maximize her privacy during bath by assigning female support worker and providing autonomy in bathroom, as much as possible. Instead of my skillful application of handling such contemporary situations, one time I had to administer an alcoholic drug to a Muslim patient, as it was required for her survival. As a responsible nurse, I would also take part in advocating the care users of my selected diverse group to cooperate with the health care system via effective cross-cultural communication. I will advise them to follow the rules and regulations of health care system through an in-depth interaction with nurse and other health care providers. I would ensure their cultural safety and would promote the importance of understanding cross-cultural communication in heath care practice. In contrast, I will give advice to the nursing staffs to prioritize patients cultural needs with respect and dignity, while avoiding any kind of gender or racial discrimination in health care context. In conclusion, I would say that, I have all the essential skills to ensure my patients cultural security and safety in the healthcare context. I would always prioritize Muslim cultural aspects, while working with Muslim women, as well as would advocate them to adhere with the health care processes, as it will improve their health outcomes.
